Mauna Lani Resort The Mauna Lani Resort rests on ancient land, known through the centuries as Kalahuipua’a. It was the place where Kings would come for recreation and elders would gather for worship. This was, and is, a special hallowed place with ancient royal fishponds preserved on the grounds to this day. The resort rest on approximately 3,200 acres with two world class hotels, two 18-hole championship golf courses, a shopping center with luxury stores and restaurants, and numerous residential and condominium developments dotted throughout the resort. This resort was developed by a partnership between the original landowner, Francis Hyde I’i Brown, Hawaii’s “Mr. Golf” and Noboru Goto, Chairman of Tokyu Corporation of Japan. The two men soon discovered that they shared a common love for the sport of golf and a passion for the environment that later lay the foundation of their vision for the resort. They planned a resort retreat that would reward its guests while preserving its history and Sense of Place. As the concept evolved, Hawaiian elders gave this unique place the name Mauna Lani, “Mountain Reaching Heaven.” This name reveres Hawaii’s Mother Earth, the volcanoes and their goddess. For Hawaiians, it is a name that sets the land apart as a place requiring “informed land stewardship,” the caring for a special land. Real estate opportunities include various condominium projects, custom homes and homesites. Mauna Lani Resort is located in South Kohala, approximately 23 miles north of Kona International Airport, about a 30 minutes drive.
